The State Historical Society of Missouri regrets to announce the temporary suspension of new bookings for its popular Missouri History Speakers’ Bureau program. Funding for the Speakers’ Bureau comes from private donations and membership dues; the Society receives no public funding for this service. The popularity of the Speakers’ Bureau has resulted in the request for speakers exceeding funds available. The Society will continue to monitor the situation and will lift the temporary suspension on booking new programs as funds become available. Please continue to check the Society website for further information.

The Missouri History Speakers’ Bureau provides speakers on a variety of topics and time periods in Missouri history.
Adult nonprofit organizations, including service and religious groups, can request a maximum of 2 speakers per calendar year from the Missouri History Speakers’ Bureau. There is no charge to the host institutions, but the availability of presentations is limited. At this time, the Bureau provides speakers to adult nonprofit organizations only and not to elementary or secondary schools (K−12) or colleges or universities.
Due to the popularity of the Missouri History Speakers’ Bureau, funds for Congressional District 4 have already been allocated for the year.
Funds for the Speakers’ Bureau are allocated by congressional district and all funds for Congressional District 4 have been allocated for fiscal year 2009; fiscal year 2009 has begun and runs through June 30, 2009.
Regrettably, we will be unable to provide speakers for organizations within District 4 until further notice. We are seeking additional funds for District 4 and would welcome any gifts for the Missouri History Speakers’ Bureau. Gifts may be designated for use within a specific district.
Please allow 30 days for arrangements to be completed. Due to limited funds for the reimbursement of speakers’ travel expenses, preference will be given to organizations located within 100 miles of the requested speaker’s residence.
