Possession of an image from the Society’s collections does not convey permission to use that image.
Permission to publish, exhibit, broadcast, or disperse any item from the Society’s collections must be requested and granted in writing on the Permission to Publish, Exhibit, or Broadcast form.![]()
Permission to publish on the Internet must also be requested and granted by the Society using the same form. Additional policies govern publishing on the Internet (see below).
Use fees will be charged per item, per use and approval is granted on a per project basis.
The fees are used to support the maintenance and preservation of the collections.
Applicants assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise from copying and from the use made of that copy. The granting of permission to publish by the Society does not absolve users of materials from securing permission from copyright owners or from payment of such additional fees as the owners may require. Whenever possible, the Society will provide information about copyright owner and other restrictions but the responsibility for contacting and following appropriate copyright use ultimately rests with the researcher.
