Weston, Platte County, 1865In 1837 a retired soldier named Joseph Moore purchased the site that became Weston from an Indian trader for a barrel whiskey. The photo above was taken just before a major fire destroyed several of the buildings pictured. W.F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody resided for a time in Weston. After Cody's father, Isaac, was attacked and stabbed while giving an antislavery speech in Kansas, Bill came to live with his uncle, Elijah Cody, in his home at 600 Main Street.      History of Southeast Missouri, 1037. |
