March 02, 2006 Internet and Beginners’ Workshops Highlight March Genealogical ConferenceThe State Historical Society of Missouri will hold a genealogical conference on March 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the Society’s quarters. The event will include a morning and an afternoon workshop, and representatives from Missouri genealogical societies will be on-hand to offer information about their organizations. The Society will also be open for research.Timothy D. Dollens will present the morning workshop, “Beginning Genealogical Research.” Dollens is supervisor of the Southern Boone County Public Library in Ashland, a branch of the Daniel Boone Regional Library. He is in charge of genealogy programming and assists with programming for the main library in Columbia. Pamela Boyer Porter will present the afternoon workshop, “Using the Internet for Genealogical Research.” Porter is an author, researcher, lecturer, and teacher specializing in southeast Missouri, methodology, migration paths into and out of Missouri, and effective use of computer tools for genealogists. She is co-author of Online Roots: How to Discover Your Family’s History and Heritage with the Power of the Internet and Research in Missouri. The workshops are free for Society members and will cost $10 per workshop or $15 for both for nonmembers. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.
