February 11, 2006 Workshop Will Give Strategies for Researching African American AncestorsOn February 21 at 7:00 p.m., The State Historical Society of Missouri will offer a workshop titled “Using the Internet and African American Research in Missouri.” Traci Wilson-Kleekamp of Columbia will give an overview of the tools and resources available via the Internet to conduct genealogical research for African Americans and will demonstrate research strategies to explore while conducting research on enslaved ancestors. Wilson-Kleekamp has been researching her family, some of whom were once slaves on central Missouri farms and plantations, for seven years.The workshop is open to the public but limited to thirty participants. Preregistration is required. To register, call the Society at (573) 882-7083. The workshop is free for Society members and $10 for nonmembers.
