We apologize for the inconvenience. Please join us January 24 for the opening reception for Selected Photos of Missouri by Oliver Schuchard. On a trial basis, the Main Gallery will be open Saturdays on the following dates: January 7 and 28, and February 4, 11,18, and 25, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.Beginning November 12, The State Historical Society of Missouri’s Main Art Gallery will be open Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in addition to its regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The new hours give the public an extra day to enjoy the Society’s extensive collection of works by Missouri or Missouri-related artists. The Society’s current exhibits include Travels in the Interior of North America: The Aquatints of Karl Bodmer, The Journey: Prints by Brooke Cameron, and A Slice of American Life: The Lithographs of Ben Messick. Selected paintings by renowned Missouri artists George Caleb Bingham, including Martial Law or Order No. 11, and Thomas Hart Benton, including several from the Year of Peril series, are on permanent display. For more information about the Society’s art collection and galleries, visit www.umsystem.edu/shs/art.html. posted @ 1:02 PM November 04, 2005 November Workshops Will Provide Tips and Techniques on Collecting Oral Histories“Oral History: Tips and Techniques,” a workshop presented by The State Historical Society of Missouri and the Western Historical Manuscript Collection-Columbia, will be held Tuesday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 15, in the WHMC-Columbia Reading Room, 23 Ellis Library, on the University of Missouri–Columbia campus. The workshops will cover the basics of planning and conducting an oral history project. The sessions will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.The workshop is open to the public but limited to fifteen participants. Pre-registration is required, and registration forms can be downloaded from the Society’s Web site, or requested by calling (573) 882-7083. The workshop is free for Society members and $10 for nonmembers. Persons interested in joining the Society can do so for $20 for an individual annual membership or $30 for a family annual membership.
