March 30, 2005 Columbia Artist Frank Stack Donates River Image to State Historical Society
Nationally-known watercolorist Frank Stack recently donated his work Spring Rain to the State Historical Society of Missouri. His recent donation, which is a watercolor landscape featuring the Missouri River, is currently on display in the exhibit Great Rivers. The exhibit runs through May 13 in the Society’s Main Gallery. The Society is pleased to hold twenty-six prints, drawings and paintings by Stack in its collection, which features the works of nationally and locally-known artists connected to Missouri.

The workshop is open to the public but limited to fifteen participants. Pre-registration is required, and registration forms can be downloaded from the Society’s Web site, or requested by calling (573) 882-7083. The workshop is free for Society members and $10 for non-members. Persons interested in joining the Society can do so for $20 for an individual annual membership or $30 for a family annual membership. The Society will not be open for public research during the workshops. posted @ 10:03 AM March 02, 2005 Using Census Records: a workshopNewspaper Library Workshop Will Teach Society Patrons How to Use Census Records for Research"The Newspaper Library: Using Census Records,” a workshop presented by the State Historical Society of Missouri, will be held Tuesday, March 8, and Tuesday, March 15, in the Society’s quarters on the University of Missouri–Columbia campus. The workshop will instruct patrons in using the census records found in the Society’s Newspaper Library for genealogical and historical research. The workshop will also cover how to correlate indexes to the population schedule microfilm and the information that can be found in the special census schedules such as the mortality, agriculture, and industry schedules. The session will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and time will be allowed for research. Each workshop is open to the public but limited to fifteen participants.
