INTRODUCTION

Interviews with people who attended or taught at one-room schoolhouses. The collection consists of digitally recorded interviews and transcripts of the interviews, a photograph, as well as some biographical information on the interviewees.

PROJECT SKETCH

The project began in collaboration with the Daniel Boone Regional Library's One Read community-wide reading program. The 2008 One Read book was Ivan Doig's The Whistling Season, a novel centered around the narrator's reminiscences of attending a one-room schoolhouse in rural Montana.

On September 19, 2008, eight interviews were conducted of individuals who attended one-room schoolhouses at the Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia, Missouri. Additional interviews have since been conducted and the collection is now an ongoing project of the State Historical Society of Missouri.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The One-room Schoolhouse Oral History Collection consists of oral history interviews digitally recorded and placed onto CDs for patron use, transcripts of the interviews, and a photograph of interviewee Charles R. Sievert's one-room schoolhouse.

In some instances, interviewees have donated supporting biographical information such as photographs and miscellanea. These materials are filed after the corresponding transcripts.

Because this is an ongoing project the attached list of CDs and transcripts might not be up-to-date. Consult the reading room staff for more information.
