SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The papers of Carolyn and David Leuthold include correspondence, publications, minutes, reports, financial records, and other materials which document their community and state-wide activities relating to politics, mental health, energy, and other issues. Most of the materials only document the various organizations and issues during the time in which the Leutholds were officers or active members. The papers are arranged into eleven series:

To facilitate the incorporation of additions to the papers, each series is separately numbered. The series letter and folder number appear in the folder list and on the folder labels.

The Boone County Community Services Council series includes minutes, correspondence, and other records of an organization devoted to coordinating the activities of, and promoting information about, community services available in Boone County. The series includes information about a predecessor organization known as the Community Congress.

The Citizens for Translator Television series includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, and financial records relating to cable television and translator television capabilities in Columbia and Boone County, Missouri. The clippings include feature stories and editorials from various newspapers in the area.

The Columbia Community Zero Population Growth Chapter series includes newsletters, brochures, flyers, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous materials relating to the activities of the chapter and the issue of birth control.

The Columbia Crop Walk Against Hunger series includes correspondence and promotional materials concerning the 4th annual crop walk held in 1980.

The Energy series is divided into six subseries:

The Energy series consists of records concerning the Leutholds's participation in these organizations during the energy crises of the 1970s. Most of the records in this series concern Carolyn Leuthold's membership on the Missouri Energy Council. Included are council membership lists, organizational and committee descriptions, meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, reports, news releases, legislation, conference and workshop files, background materials, and miscellaneous. The other subseries include brief information in the form of newsletters, clippings, consensus papers, and similar materials.

The League of Women Voters series includes reports, correspondence, and publications from the national, state, and local levels.

The Mental Health series is divided into three subseries:

This series consists of correspondence, minutes of meetings, by-laws, newsletters and other publications, and miscellaneous material which reflect the activities of organizations supporting mental health and of which Carolyn Leuthold was an officer or active member. The records relating to the Missouri Association for Mental Health include Board of Directors, Executive Director and committee files, correspondence, financial reports, annual meeting files, publications, legislative materials, and miscellaneous. The records relating to the Boone County Association for Mental Health include the by-laws, minutes of Board of Directors meetings, treasurer's reports, correspondence, annual meeting files, committee files, membership lists, project files, publications, and miscellaneous. The General subseries includes correspondence, publications and other records of the Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center, a few items relating to city, county, and national mental health associations, minutes of related organizational meetings, and miscellaneous.

The Slavin Campaign series documents the Leutholds's involvement in Alberta Slavin's campaign for Missouri Lieutenant Governor in 1977. Included is correspondence, advertisements, campaign statements, editorials, and press clippings.

The Volunteer Action Center series reflects Carolyn Leuthold's work as a board member and committee member of the center and its predecessor organization, the Volunteer and Information Center. Included are incomplete minutes of the Board of Directors meetings, correspondence, by-laws, committee reports, and workshop files.

The Commission on Ward Realignment series documents David Leuthold's work with this Columbia commission in 1981 to realign the city voting districts. Included are correspondence, minutes, notices, and agendas, maps and details of proposed plans, voting records of the commission, clippings, and miscellaneous data.
