The collection contains audio cassettes and transcripts of speeches, photographs, and advertisements documenting the Peter Tamony Memorial Lecture series at the University of Missouri.
The collection was created by the Western Historical Manuscript Collection from it’s files on the lecture series on 26 April 2000 (Accession no. 5841). An addition to the collection was made on 9 May 2003 by Matthew J. Gordon, for the University of Missouri English Department.
The Peter Tamony Memorial Lecture series was established in 1986 in honor of linguist, Peter Tamony (see C3939). The Western Historical Manuscript Collection hosted the annual program which brought in noted linguistic scholars to speak on American language. In 2003, the English Department at the University of Missouri assumed the role of main sponsor of the event.
The collection contains audio cassettes, transcripts of speeches, photographs, and advertisements documenting the Peter Tamony Memorial Lecture series at the University of Missouri. The collection is arranged into two series:
The Supporting Materials series contains photographs, flyers, and transcripts. Not all the folders contain all the supporting materials. The series is arranged chronologically.
The Audio Cassettes series consists of recordings of the lectures and is arranged chronologically. The first two lectures given by Frederic Cassidy and Allen Walker Read were not recorded.
