DONOR INFORMATION

The Garfield School Records were loaned to the University of Missouri for copying by the Mexico Public School System through Mildred Miller on July 31, 1995 (Accession No. 5549).

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Garfield School Records are comprised of student attendance record books of the elementary and high school grades, 1910-1975. Consisting of Teachers' Daily Registers and Annual Attendance Registers, the records are arranged chronologically.

The Teachers' Daily Registers record student attendance, by grade, for the years 1910-1959, with each volume containing multiple school years and in some cases several grades. The volumes record daily attendance with a quarterly summary. The teacher's name is often recorded, although the grade is not noted in several of the volumes in the 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s. These records are nearly complete for the 1910-1959 period.

Annual Attendance Registers consist of quarterly attendance summaries and, beginning in 1955, daily attendance records of all classes at Garfield School. Probably compiled from the teachers' registers, they cover the years 1926-1975 and are complete for that period. They provide more information than the teachers' registers, with the student's age and place of birth, and the name, address, and, up to 1956, the occupation of the parent or guardian recorded.
