Records of the Audubon Society of Missouri, an educational organization promoting ornithology and environmental awareness. Includes correspondence of society officers, minutes and programs of annual meetings, membership lists, and related material concerning activities of the society.
The Audubon Records were donated to the University of Missouri by William M. Clark for the society on 14 January 1986 (14 January 1986).
The records provide insight into the basic organization, aims, and activities of the Audubon Society of Missouri but do not document the long-term development of the society. The bulk of the material concerns society activities during the 1960s and 1970s. The records are arranged topically, then chronologically within.
The correspondence of the officers of the society dates from 1961 to 1984, with the preponderance of the material dated between 1969 and 1977, and concerns financial matters; membership; general inquiries; production and distribution of the society's publication, The Bluebird; meetings and special events; and contact with the National Audubon Society, affiliated Audubon societies in Missouri, and other environmental and ornithology groups. There is one folder of resolution correspondence. As an environmental advocacy group, the society relayed its adopted resolutions to appropriate national and state leaders and departments.
The annual meeting minutes are complete for the period 1934-1979 and include treasurer's reports. The organizational documents include articles of association, bylaws, and papers pertaining to tax-exempt status. Miscellaneous printed material consists of society newsletters, clippings, articles, checklists of Missouri birds, and list of affiliates.
