INTRODUCTION

Six letters from a Union soldier in Company D, 21st Regiment, Missouri Volunteers, from camps at Vicksburg, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia to his parents.

DONOR INFORMATION

The White Letters were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by Mrs. Lawrence Hoenig on 14 March 1975 (SHS Accession No. 1130).

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Green Bery White was born to Harvey and Vienna Holman White in Platte County, Missouri, on 23 September 1844. He enlisted in Company D, 21st Regiment, Missouri Volunteers for the Union at Sturgeon, Boone County, Missouri, on 18 August 1862. He was discharged on 13 June 1865.

White married Mary Elizabeth Jamison on 21 December 1866 in Boone County. He died in Randolph County on 15 March 1930.
