INTRODUCTIONThe Congress of Racial Equality Papers contain constitutions of the national and local C.O.R.E., minutes, membership lists, clippings, and correspondence. There is also information on integration in Columbia, the arrest of John D. Schopp, and projects sponsored by the national organization. DONOR INFORMATIONThe C.O.R.E. Papers were donated to the University of Missouri by James Mehl on 8 February 1967 (Accession No. 3699). |
|
The Columbia C.O.R.E. chapter was organized in 1959 and affiliated with the national organization in 1960.
These papers do not adequately document the administrative structure of Columbia's C.O.R.E. chapter; however, the newsclippings and small amount of correspondence do recount some of the activities of the organization during the early 1960s.
The materials from the national C.O.R.E., while not complete, chronicle the evolving and expanding role of the office and the conferences and integration projects it sponsored, as well as the activities of the national conventions during this time period.
