The diaries and miscellaneous papers of a lawyer and farmer who lived in Chicago, Illinois, and Hannibal, Missouri.
The Davidson Papers were donated to the University of Missouri by Aileen Davidson on 23 May 1949 (Accession No. 3040).
The Davidson Papers are divided into two series: Diaries and Miscellaneous. The diaries consist of fifteen volumes written by Davidson from 1869 to 1917. The volumes contain day by day accounts of the life of James Davidson and his family while living in Chicago, Illinois, and Hannibal, Missouri, with references to court cases, politics, local and national events, recreation, and weather. Researchers should note the gaps in the volumes from 1870 to 1872, 1875 to 1876, and 1879 to 1903.
The Miscellaneous series includes correspondence, train schedules, and receipts. The correspondence consists of copies of letters written by Davidson to William Jennings Bryan and Senator James A. Reed.
