The Blount Family Papers were deposited at the University of Missouri by Don Simpson on 9 February 1948 (Accession No. 2915).
R.A. and Thomp F. Blount were involved in lead mining at Blount Mines in Miami, Oklahoma and Washington Land and Mining Company in Palmer, Missouri. The family also had interests in farming and a mercantile store in Potosi, Missouri.
Harry J. Blount studied medicine at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri from 1907 to 1908.
The Blount Family Papers consists of correspondence, legal, and financial records detailing their mining and mercantile businesses in southeast Missouri and northwest Oklahoma. The Printed Materials series consists of church quarterlies, medical student textbook lists, issues of Medical Record, and a machinery catalog.
The Correspondence series is divided between Mercantile correspondence and Mining and Mercantile correspondence. The Mercantile correspondence consists of letters between Thomp F. Blount and J.A. Other correspondence deals with grain and seed orders, prices, and shipments, Civil War pension claims of Washington County, Missouri, residents, and business correspondence with merchants, insurance agents, car deals, and real estate dealers. The series also includes a small amount of family and social correspondence.

Blount Mining Company, Miami, Oklahoma. Correspondence with W.C. Hogoboom, superintendent of Blount mines in Oklahoma, contains weekly reports including expenses, drill records, shipping, and sampling reports and prices. Other correspondence is written between Blount and mining and chemical companies, smelting and refining companies, and government agencies concerning mining in Colorado, Oklahoma, and southeast Missouri. There is also some correspondence concerning Blount and Bust General Merchandise Store in Potosi.
The Financial Papers series is divided between the mercantile and mining operations. The mercantile records include accounts and bills, checks, invoices, receipts, bills from wholesalers, correspondence, freight bills, and livestock market reports. The mining records include checks, receipts, orders, freight bills and shipping receipts for supplies, equipment, and crude barite ore, payrolls, royalty statements, and general expenditure statements including drilling, assaying, labor, supplies and prospecting of the family owned lead companies in Missouri and Oklahoma.
The Legal Papers series includes abstracts of title and land surveys for Washington County, Missouri, deeds, contracts, pension claim reports, mining leases in Missouri and Oklahoma, and a legal brief concerning R.A. Blount and a labor union dispute.
The Miscellaneous Papers series contains maps of Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri mining districts, as well as papers concerning workman’s compensation insurance, a photograph, government publications on mines and mining, and miscellaneous family mementos.
The Record Books series consists of payroll ledgers, mercantile account books, farm journal day-by-day records, mining accounts, inventories, and a bookkeeping textbook. The series also contains ore weight measurements, lead mining notebooks, mining bank deposits and drill hole records, rent receipts, real estate account books, and lead weight tickets.
