Guion S. Bluford Jr. (1942– )

Guion Bluford was the first African American man to become an astronaut and orbit the earth in the NASA program. In 1983 he flew aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. He made additional space flights in 1985, 1991, and 1992. He has logged over 688 hours in space.
