The Dorm. & the Olympic Stadium.

After spending most of the day in a sort of mental agony, Annette [Rogers Kelly], Harriett [Bland Green] and I went to the Stadium at 3:00 o’clock. I ran in the second heat and made 11.4! The rub-down was agonizing. Coming back for the semi-finals, I made 11.5. The applause was great. For the first time I ran before an endless mass of humans—over 100,000 people. Tonight I have been graciously received by everyone & am happy in my success over those of my equality. Owens won. My legs didn’t bother me at all. Saw Crown Prince of Italy.

The Olympic Stadium

At last the great day arrived! Gertrude, Evelyn, & I were beaten soundly in discus after marching upon the field. Cool & excitement over coming event, etc. Then in the 100 meters—I won the Olympic crown. Walsh & Krause came in that order. Yes, the applause was grand. The thrill of seeing the American flag raised for me & the crowning of the victors was marvelous. Spoke to U. S.  Hitler met me privately and congratulated me. I also got his autograph and another official. Received at dormitory by team. Flowers from team & baroness. Dee, Kathy, Betty & I crashed an International banquet—met & had hand kissed by Goering–the Minister President.
