George Caleb Bingham was five feet, eight inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds. When he was a young man, Bingham became very ill with a disease similar to small pox. It left his face pockmarked and caused him to lose his hair. He wore a wig for the rest of his life. (Nagel, pp. 17-18.)
