About This Web SiteThe State Historical Society’s Famous Missourians Web site has been specifically created to assist elementary school students in their study of Missouri history and famous Missourians during the fourth-grade year of instruction. It is intended to provide students with textual and visual materials not readily accessible to them in school media centers and public libraries. This site meets the following Show-Me State Standards for Social Studies: 2, 6, and 7. It also meets the Missouri Grade Level Expectation Objective (DESE) 2a.A. In addition to serving the educational needs of elementary students throughout Missouri, the State Historical Society hopes that this electronic biographical site will be of use and value to Missourians of all ages. In various ways, the Missourians featured on this site brought about or contributed to the growth and development of Missouri as a territory and as an important state in the Union. Carlynn Trout wrote the text for the site. She is a freelance writer of educational textbook materials for various publishers, including Houghton Mifflin Company of Boston. She is also the author of Notable Women of Missouri, a collection of biographical essays currently used in fourth-grade classrooms in the Columbia Public Schools. The site was designed and is maintained by staff of The State Historical Society: Research by Laurel Boeckman, Christine Montgomery, and Jamie Mittermeyer For comments or questions about this website, please contact Dean Hargett at hargettd@umsystem.edu. |
